Community Groups are shaped by their members and each has its own personality. In general, you can expect weekly gatherings of conversation, food, prayer, and discussion about the previous Sunday sermon. Community Groups are not classes and the leader isn’t necessarily an expert with all the answers.
As groups discuss the Bible members are able to ask questions, share learning, and encourage each other in applying the message to everyday life. Our groups also serve together – sometimes that happens during the regularly scheduled meeting time; at other times it happens outside the church. Our hope is that the relationships that form at group will grow to transcend the once-per-week, two-hour meeting and spill over into the ongoing rhythms of life engaging in the community and bearing witness to God’s grace and Love in a very tangible way.
We hope through community groups to provide a Christ- centered context for people at Hood River Alliance Church to practice loving each other and living beyond the often isolating habits of our broader culture. Community groups meet formally September- May, and groups with available space can be joined at any point during that season. We take summers off from formal community groups to gather in other meaningful ways.
