Missions Trips

Jesus sent his apprentices out in pairs, and they came back changed. Our missions trips carry on that practice. We go to serve alongside our partners around the world, and we trust that Jesus will form us along the way, for their sake and for ours.

Formed as we go

A missions trip is more than a project to finish or a place to visit. It is a practice of the Way of Jesus. For a short season we step out of our ordinary rhythms, our comforts, and our competence, and we put ourselves where we have to depend on God and on one another.

We go as apprentices, not experts. Our partners know their communities, their language, and their needs far better than we do, and they will be there long after we fly home. So we go to listen, to learn, and to serve wherever they ask us to.

The goal is always both: real good for the people we serve, and real formation in the people who go. What God does in us there comes home with us, and shapes how we love our neighbors here in the Gorge.

Good that goes both ways

Every trip is planned with two kinds of people in mind.

For those who go

Formed along the way

Away from home, we practice prayer, simplicity, and dependence on God, and we learn to share life closely with a team. We learn to receive hospitality, not only give it. And we come home with a bigger picture of God's kingdom and a deeper love for his church around the world.

For those we serve

Serving alongside, not over

We go at the invitation of trusted, long-term partners and come alongside the work God is already doing through them. Whether we are leading a kids camp, building, worshiping together, or simply encouraging weary leaders, we want our time to strengthen their ministry, not compete with it.

The shape of a trip

Formation doesn't start at the airport or end when we land back home.

  1. Prepare

    The team gathers for prayer and Scripture, learns about our partners and their culture, and raises support together. The whole church is invited to pray and give.

  2. Go

    We serve alongside our partners, keep simple daily rhythms of prayer and reflection as a team, and pay attention to what God is doing in us and around us.

  3. Return

    We debrief together, share what we saw with our church family, and ask how what God did there might shape the way we live here.

Kenya 2026

Remember Nhu

Our team served alongside Remember Nhu in Nairobi and Ngong. Remember Nhu works to prevent child trafficking by giving vulnerable children a safe home, an education, and the love of Jesus. We led a five-day kids camp built around the Armor of God for the 40 children in their care, and worshiped with the local Kenyan church that walks with these kids year-round.

Thirteen of us boarded the plane, but all of HRAC went with us in prayer. We went to serve, and expecting to be changed by Jesus along the way.

Guatemala 2026

Galilea Church and the C&MA of Guatemala

HRAC first sent a team to Guatemala in 1995, and our friendship with the Alliance church there has grown ever since. This spring a team returned to San Lucas, just outside Guatemala City, to keep building relationships with our friends at Galilea Church and to support their work of planting churches throughout the region.

Year after year, our brothers and sisters in Guatemala teach us at least as much about faithfulness as we could ever bring to them.
