HIGHLIGHTS FOR THIS WEEK

SUNDAY | PHLIPPIANS SERMON SERIES

This week, our study through the book of Philippians takes us to Philippians 2:12-18 – where Pastor Tina will walk us through Paul’s invitation to ‘work out our salvation with fear and trembling.’  Ultimately, Paul’s desire for these brothers and sisters in Christ, is that they would ‘shine like lights’ in a dark world. Church family – would you know that this is our desire for you, too!

LISTENING PRAYER WORKSHOP | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26 | AFTER SERVICE

You were created to hear from God- and He has so much to say! Join us for the Listening Prayer Workshop on October 26th! We will look at God's communication in scripture, we'll explore some principles, and we will give it a try!

10/26 • 11:30-1:30 • Lunch Provided

DISCOVER HRAC | SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2 | AFTER THE SERVICE

Our next opportunity to ‘Discover HRAC’ is coming up on Sunday, November 2 after the worship service.  If this space isn’t for you because you are familiar with HRAC, can I encourage you to reach out to someone who might be new to worshipping with us and let them know that this is a great place to come and learn about HRAC, meet some of the leaders, and get connected into the life of the church?!?!

HARVEST FESTIVAL | SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9 | 4:30 – 6:30PM

We are looking forward to our annual ‘Harvest Festival’ on Sunday, November 9. This all-church gathering simply serves as an opportunity for our church family to enjoy some food, fun and fellowship.  Part of the fun of this event, is the ‘contest’ we have where our church’s best chefs prepare either an ‘Autumnal Soup’ or a ‘ Fall Dessert’ – whatever you family favorite might be!

Finally – we invite you to bring along a ‘muffin tin’ so that you can sample all the delicious selections and vote for your favorite! We will also have some fun activities planned for kids and adults alike! We do ask that you would register your food here so we make sure we have enough!

A CELEBRATION & AN INVITATION

We wanted to take a moment to celebrate with Eric & Mary Bokovoy as they celebrate the marriage of their daughter and son-in-law, Jude & David Ellis.  Every time I have the joy of officiating a wedding, it serves as a fresh reminder to pray over all the marriages in our church family.  So – as you celebrate with the Bokovoys, I’d also like to invite you to pray over all of the marriages represented here at HRAC.

NOMINATING TEAM | MONTH OF OCTOBER
We have entered the time of year where we begin our preparations for the year ahead – Ministry Objectives, Budget, and Leadership Affirmation. We want to give an invitation in particular, around calling and affirming the next leaders here at HRAC. This year, our Nominating Team is looking for three specific leadership affirmations:

  1. Governing Team Elder – as Terry Rogers concludes his term of service.

  2. Nominating Team At-Large – as Margie Grant concludes her term of service.

  3. Nominating Team At-Large – to fill the remaining year of service for the term of Johnny Farrell, who stepped out of this position.

Partnering in the work: If you have seen, or sensed, God’s calling on someone in our church family towards church leadership, and you’d like to encourage the Nominating Team to consider that person – we ask that you would take the time to share those names by having a conversation with a NT member, or through filling out this form.   The NT will then engage in prayerful conversations with those individuals, before putting nominees before you to be affirmed on ‘Celebration Sunday’ (January 11).

Current Members of the Nominating Team include: Margie Grant, Jill Yoder, and Pastor Keith, Melodi Johnson and Kelsey Strand.

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH | MONTH OF OCTOBER

Throughout the month of October, we want to invite you to take some time to express your gratitude to our pastoral team here at HRAC – both for the leadership they provide to the ministry of the church, but also for how they love, care, pray for, and shepherd you as a church family.

  • Associate Pastor – Tina Combs (Community, Missions & Spiritual Formation)

  • Youth Pastor – Melissa Richardson (7-12th Grade Students)

  • Children’s Pastor – Paige Weting (Newborn – 5th Grade Students)

  • Worship Pastor – Brett Yoder (Worship & Tech)

  • Care Pastor – Tim Saur (Visits, Coffee Meet-Ups and Everything in Between!)

  • Operations Pastor – Anders Sorestad (Facility, Finances, Hospitality, Communication)

Maybe consider stopping in to give a hug and share those words. Maybe consider writing a heartfelt note or email or text message that you could send them. Maybe you want to encourage them with a gift of some sort – a gift card for coffee or a favorite restaurant. Maybe you want to encourage them with a gift of financial generosity that blesses them and their family. No matter how you feel led – the real gift is simply choosing to let them know just how much you appreciate them!

OCTOBER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GENEROSITY

Throughout the month of October, we are inviting you as a church family into two opportunities for generosity towards our greater Hood River community.

1.       HYGIENE KIT DONATIONS: Our middle school students are putting their faith into action by hosting a Hygiene Drive to support people in our community who are experiencing homelessness. They are excited to put together kits to give out, and they are inviting us to partner with them by bringing Travel-sized hygiene items! Donations can be dropped off in the church foyer (there will be clearly marked totes!) and can be brought on Sunday mornings, or anytime throughout the week when the facility is open.
