Shelter Meals
Every Sunday through the winter, we cook lunch for guests of the Hood River Shelter. Sign up as a community group, a family, or a few friends, and help our neighbors feel seen, known, and loved.
The Hood River Shelter Services is opening on November 17th. They provide a warm place to stay, food, and access to local services throughout the winter. As a church, we have partnered with them over the last four years to provide meals on Sundays. Thank you to all of you who have served in this way over the years!
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to love and share our resources with those in need within our community. It's also a great way to serve as a community group, a family, or friend group.
How a Sunday works
Your team prepares the meal in the church kitchen. Here's how the day comes together.
-
1
Shuttle pickup
Shelter guests are picked up and brought to church before the service.
-
2
Worship together
Guests are welcome to join us for the 10:00 AM service.
-
3
Lunch at church
After church, your team serves lunch to the guests who came.
-
4
Pack and deliver
Package the remaining meals. The shuttle driver delivers them when giving guests a ride back.
~35
meals to plan for
Don't sweat it if you're a few over or under. It's likely the majority of meals will be packaged.
- Who
- Anyone can sign up! If you aren't already set up in Planning Center (the church's scheduling and planning software), email kelseyandgarrison@gmail.com to get set up. It's super easy.
- What
- Prepare a meal for the guests staying at the Hood River Shelter, 1733 Oak St, Hood River.
- When
- Every Sunday after church. See the signups for open dates.
- Where
- Prepare the meal in the church kitchen. After serving any shelter guests who came to church, package the meals, and the shuttle driver will deliver the rest to the shelter.
- Packaging
- We provide various styles of food containers in the kitchen pantry at church. If you'd like to see them, or have a particular type you'd like, let us know!
Our prayer for this season
That more people at the shelter feel seen, known, and loved, and experience Christ's love and grace through us, and that we also experience Christ through them.
